Anthropic Launches Duet Agent with 6,000 Integrations for Business Automation

The new Claude Duet app targets professionals and small businesses by leveraging a vast marketplace of connectors to automate complex workflows without handling personal errands.

Anthropic has introduced a new artificial intelligence agent called Claude Duet, which connects to more than 6,000 tools and plugins to automate professional workflows for businesses and individual workers. The launch marks the company's entry into a crowded market of productivity assistants, positioning the new software specifically for commercial use rather than general personal assistance.

The application is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model and is designed to manage tasks in the background using its own virtual machine. Unlike consumer-facing agents that might book tickets or run errands, Duet focuses on generating daily briefings, creating data dashboards, and suggesting actions based on user information. It operates asynchronously, allowing users to continue their work while the agent processes tasks, and it will only interrupt the user if specific approval is required for sensitive steps.

The release coincides with a broader industry shift from simple chat-based assistants to autonomous agents capable of executing tasks on behalf of users. Competitors are increasingly targeting the business sector, with Meta releasing a small-business version of its Muse assistant and OpenAI promoting Dots with integrations for professional tools. Anthropic distinguishes Duet from personal agents like Instinct by explicitly noting that it is not designed for handling personal logistics or displaying real-time browser activity.

A key feature of the platform is its ability to make online purchases on behalf of the user. Duet utilizes Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay to facilitate these transactions. However, the company has established clear boundaries for financial autonomy; while payments require explicit user approval, the agent is not authorized to trade securities or transfer funds between different accounts.

To address privacy concerns inherent in connecting an AI agent to numerous business systems, Anthropic has deployed a new classifier that scans messages to prevent the leakage of sensitive data. By default, the system is configured to reject requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification documents, adding a layer of security to the automated processes.

The platform is currently available in a research preview stage. It can be accessed as a mobile application for iOS and Android devices, or via the web interface on Claude.ai. Access is restricted to customers on Pro and Max plans, and new users must join a waitlist to gain entry to the system during this initial rollout phase.

The strategic focus on connectors allows Duet to interface with the extensive ecosystem of tools already available in the Claude Marketplace. This architecture enables the agent to pull data from various sources to inform its recommendations and execute multi-step workflows. The company emphasizes that the agent proactively monitors ongoing tasks to deliver timely suggestions, aiming to reduce the administrative burden on professional users.

As the technology matures, the distinction between personal and business-oriented AI agents is becoming more pronounced. By limiting Duet's capabilities to professional automation and excluding personal errands, Anthropic is carving out a specific niche within the rapidly expanding landscape of AI productivity tools. The waitlist model suggests the company is managing capacity while it refines the agent's performance and security protocols.
